Who is...?

I'm a bad ass, versatile artist. I'm not only a control-freak author who writes, edits, publishes, and promotes her books. I'm also a painter, photographer, reproductive rights activist, and occasional shower-singer; that is, I sing in the shower every morning and I mysteriously receive offers to sing in weddings and bar mitzvahs.

I was born in Córdoba (Spain) in 1978. I traveled around Europe, lived in Ireland and England for short periods of time, and finally settled down in New York a few years ago. I'm currently working full time (unrelated with literature, someone's gotta pay the bills), going to school, and writing. Lately I'm getting emails from a lot people asking about my personal life. If I'm married, in a relationship, have kids, go out with a married man, know someone with cancer or have had cancer myself, am a victim of incest, have ever had an abortion, drink too much, do drugs... What is my religion, philosophy, political point of view...

If you know me and have read my books, you know that I reveal a lot about my feelings, beliefs, and personality. I am not a writer who tries to hide her opinions. For the most part, I believe that my poems and short stories are best when they reflect my honest experiences and visions. Despite of the latter, and to quote Roland Barthes, «the biography of the author is merely another text which does not indicate any privilege – it is the language which speaks in the text, not the author himself». That is, don’t take everything I write literally. Don't overthink about my life. Don't ask me too many questions because I prefer to save my privacy for myself, friends, and family members. Ask yourself some questions instead. Think positively. Grow.

¿Quién es...?

Soy una artista versátil y marisabidilla. No sólo soy una obsesiva-compulsiva que controla lo que escribe, edita, publica y promueve sus propios libros. También soy una pintora, fotógrafa, activista de los derechos reproductivos y ocasional cantante cuartobañera; es decir, cada mañana canto en la ducha y misteriosamente me llueven las ofertas para cantar en bodas, bautizos y comuniones.

Nací en Córdoba (España) en 1978. He viajado por Europa, vivido en Irlanda e Inglaterra por breves períodos de tiempo y finalmente me establecí en Nueva York hace unos años. Ahora mismo trabajo a tiempo completo (nada que ver con la literatura, alguien tiene que pagar las facturas), voy a la universidad y también escribo. Últimamente me llegan bastantes emails de gente interesándose en mi vida personal. Que si estoy casada o tengo novio, tengo hijos, salgo con un casado, conozco a alguien con cáncer o he tenido cáncer, soy víctima del incesto, he tenido algún aborto, bebo mucho, me drogo... Cuál es mi credo, filosofía, punto de vista...

Si me conoces y has leído mis libros, sabrás que se me escapa un montón sobre mis sentimientos, ideas y personalidad. No soy una escritora que intente esconder sus opiniones. Creo que mis poemas y relatos, en la mayoría, son mejores si reflejan alguna experiencia que haya vivido o algún punto de vista. Sin embargo, y por citar a Roland Barthes, «la biografía del autor es meramente otro texto que no indica ningún privilegio - es la lengua la que habla en el texto, no el autor». O sea, que no te tomes todo lo que escribo al pie de la letra. No le des vueltas a mi vida. No me preguntes muchas cosas porque prefiero guardar mi intimidad para mí, mis amigos y mi familia. En lugar de eso, plantéate dudas a ti mism@. Piensa en positivo. Crece.
